With new York fashion week running last week, all the talk this spring is of designers going all out for green. We have come up with our three fave designers.
Anna Gilkerson for Deux FM believes in celebrating living within our means and using what we already have to make something innovative and beautiful.
Gilkerson created a modern-romantic look during her first time showing at the New York fashion Week green Shows using organic merino wool, recycled sorona spandex, and locally sourced vintage cottons amongst other locally and domestically sourced environmentally friendly materials.
Chicago designer Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart for Vaute Couture designed a new line committed to style, ethics and performance using vegan-friendly, eco-conscious, ethically produced, re-cycled fibres.
With her inspiration for the Autumn Winter 2010 Collection coming from humanity evolving in its natural state, Sonja den Elzen for Thieves is promoting with the environment rather than against it by producing a new line using sustainable products such as hemp blends, peace silks, organic wools and cottons.
Promoting eco-fashion and sustainable style, the Green Shows at New York Fashion Week certainly turned some heads and we look forward to further projects as ongoing, ever-increasing awareness of the environment in fashion are becoming more and more socially conscious.
This was actually an article I wrote for Eco-chic International whilst interning at an entertainment/media production company but I thought I would share it with you also, through my personal blog.
