The Pink Door ~ Seattle

One of my FAVOURITE restaurants in the whole world!

Incorporating food, performance art and enjoyment this Italian-American Restaurant is one of those places you can never find and is only really heard of through word of mouth.

You would never know this quirky little place existed until you  find your way through cobbled alleyways and a winding back entrance of an old warehouse to emerge the pink door that opens to an open space of kooky decor, live entertainment and 'artsy' type people.

During our visit, they featured an awesome live band, but word around the block is that they also feature cabaret & trapeze! We sat back and relaxed while our waiters floated around and entertained us over some great wine and delicious Italian mezza.

The menu was amazing, wine described as "the elixir that makes a pleasant meal into an inspired one," and uncomplicated food derived from 'La Padrona's' family recipes and inspired from Sunday family gatherings in her Grandfather's garden.

This only makes me love it more.

From organic and sustainable sources of olive oils and prosciutto, to Vashon Island steaks and wild Northwest Pacific salmon. This place is in every way - semplicemente delizioso!

Sleep Under The Stars in Kenya

Reading through magazines, I have come across this cultural, yet dream luxury getaway retreat. Who needs a safari when you can cleanse your mind body and soul sleeping amongst the Kenyan wilderness? Cantilevered over the flowing rivers of Ewaso N'giro Riverof, you can sleep in a four poster ‘star bed’ which has been authentically handcrafted by local Samburu Tribe onto a wooden raised platform allowing you to snooze under the stars and awake each morning to African wildlife cooling off below.

You can choose to stay in either The Lodge, The Private House or The Cottage and whether your days spent being pampered at the authentic luxury day-spa, trekking alongside traditional Laikipiak Maasai warriors, river-rafting, horse-riding or simply relaxing in the evening in their cliff top bubble-pool. This sounds to me like a perfect getaway!

Liberty of London at MAC

Being made-over at the MAC bar whilst away in British Columbia's Kelowna on a girls shopping trip last weekend, some cute new colourful finds definitely caught my eye.

Liberty of London is MACs new range with awesome, almost graffiti-like packaging and an exclusively created flower and bird theme. Coming from the UK, I`m defintely all for it and especially loving the nail colours -  India blue which is in my description Matt/Navy - a colour you I don't see too often. After covering my `phalange tips` in almost every colour and forgetting about them, continuing leaving the store. I was delighted, in a way, to find that the colours do not either come off nor chip with ease.

So while my make-up artist writes down a name of one of her previous collageues as recommendation to go see next time I`m Downtown Vancouver, and in need of my next MAC hit. I fold up the piece of paper to later in the week and after arriving back home, I realise I`m not too sure on my base colour and go downtown and change it, completely forgetting the about my recommendation.

There are actually about ten different MAC bars downtown, and about ten artists in each store, and so anyway, I`m changing my product when I realise the girl also has an English accent and ask her wheres she`s from.

Turns out she moved here a few years ago from Manchester (which is where I ALSO used to live) and she was ALSO was working at the store I had had my original make-over...
She was the exact girl I was recommended!

Small world - anyway she writes down her name and says we should all go for drinks since we both moved here recently (it can be hard to settle into a new city.)

So new make-up, new range and a whole new extension to our Cinderella `Gang.`

Im now excited for the 'To the Beach Collection' that comes out tomorrow!! Watch this space......

Rollerskates are GO!

Rollerskating as a kid was always a weekend romance of mine. Nothing would I love more than to roll up and down the street as soon as Saturday hits. These boldly coloured steps of what can only be described as abolut greatness can only remind me of summer days with grazed knees and conversations with actress Maureen Lipman`s mother as she payed particular attention to this blonde little miss bombing backwards and forwards by her garden hedge at least a thousand times before Sunday dinner. Since moving to Vancouver, I am going to do my very upmost best to bring this enjoyable pass time back around to the rest of the world.
Not only was I SUPER excited to find that Canadians actually still do it for fun, excercise and transport right up until they hit Grey - but it`s also cool, fun, great for the ass and not to mention pretty god damn sexy.

Stanley park here I come!

Sex and the City

Summers almost here and it`s almost time for the Sex and The City Movie Take 2, so what is better than afternoon shopping with your girls and stopping off for some afternoon Sex and The City style refreshments? Let me think, apart from, ummm nothing........

After working as a cocktail bartender for some awesome bars around the world. I definitely believe that regardless of the bartender politics, this is definitely the best way to make a cosmo.
So why not get together for a summer garden party and make them yourself while enjoying some sun. And who knows, if you make enough noise you may have ur very own Dante drop by to complain and possibly persuade him to serve them to you?!
First of all chill ur glasses with ice and soda water, (or just stick them in the fridge.)

Ingredients
1 1/2oz CitroenVodka
1/2oz Cointreau
1/4oz Fresh Lime Juice
Dash of Cranberry Juice (and I mean a dash to add a slight tinge of pink, not flourescent) <----thought I know for this my sister (who is totally like Charlotte) will disagree, regardless of 'the rules') as it makes it sweeter ........

Shakey shake at all up over ice and strain into ur chilled martini glasses. No straw required.
Flame an orange twist by slicing a oval piece of rind and snapping it sharply to propell the oils through a flame and onto the surface of your drink (example video follows below.)  make sure you use firm fresh orange.

Rim ur glass with the burned oils from the orange twist so that ur first taste as you drink and throw 'that' in too.
Sexy as Hell.

Now, flaming your twist;

The Secret Garden

Hidden in far Northern regions of England, there's a place you might stumble upon in the beautiful countryside known as Alnwick.
In this secret little place yo
u can spend the day floating around its beautiful hidden gardens. And even have dinner up in theirtree-house, yes TREE-HOUSE restaurant. One of the most unique and beautiful restaurant in the WORLD.
High up amongst the treetops this romantic little getaway has its own cosy log fire and trees growing up through the floor. Not to mention a great wine list and live music!
Imagine winding through the tree tops along candle lit wooden bridges to find this cosy spot high up amongst the starry night summer skies.
They actually filmed a part of Harry Potter Movie here too, but shhhhhhhhhh that's a secret.

The Good Society Jeans Collection

Expression, modesty, sex-appeal and simplicity, jeans have been around since the 1850's and are still going satrong with so many modern varieties of colour, material, fit and style. Jeans will always be a huge part of the fashion industry.

Thanks to James Dean in rebel without a cause, jeans became popularized and a symbol of youth rebellion, becoming banned in many schools, restaurants and theatres. We`ve come a long way and are now using them to deal with international fair trade issues.

The Good Society Jeans Collection have teamed up with suppliers supporting independent farmers in India who are trained in organic and sustainable production methods. their proceeds are used to assist in not-for-profit initiatives, supporting vulnerable nepalese women and children involved in the sex trade industry, as well as sharing their time by travelling to norhtern India, financially assisting with food, housing and schooling expenses with over 200 kids at two different locations.
With stores in Canada, Australia and the U.S, the Good Society have definitely got our vote.

This was actually an article I wrote for Eco-chic International whilst interning at a certain Vancouver based entertainment/media production company but I thought I would share it with you also, through my personal blog.

Designers Go Green at New York Fashion Week

With new York fashion week running last week, all the talk this spring is of designers going all out for green. We have come up with our three fave designers.

Anna Gilkerson for Deux FM believes in celebrating living within our means and using what we already have to make something innovative and beautiful.

Gilkerson created a modern-romantic look during her first time showing at the New York fashion Week green Shows using organic merino wool, recycled sorona spandex, and locally sourced vintage cottons amongst other locally and domestically sourced environmentally friendly materials.

Chicago designer Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart for Vaute Couture designed a new line committed to style, ethics and performance using vegan-friendly, eco-conscious, ethically produced, re-cycled fibres.

With her inspiration for the Autumn Winter 2010 Collection coming from humanity evolving in its natural state, Sonja den Elzen for Thieves is promoting with the environment rather than against it by producing a new line using sustainable products such as hemp blends, peace silks, organic wools and cottons.

Promoting eco-fashion and sustainable style, the Green Shows at New York Fashion Week certainly turned some heads and we look forward to further projects as ongoing, ever-increasing awareness of the environment in fashion are becoming more and more socially conscious.
